July Blessings

Hello y'all!

I hope that the month of July has been full of joy and that you have been wonderfully blessed.  Can you believe that this year is more than half gone!?!  I can't!

The month of July has been full of glorious sunsets, incredible food, spending time with family, fun 4th of July celebrations, baseball, morning runs (working my way up to a 5K!), kitty-loving, Ultimate Frisbee, and God's ever abundant grace.  His mercies are indeed new every morning!

I have been thinking a lot about persecution, martyrdom, and serving Christ with my ALL lately.  It has been on my mind often, almost constantly, after reading Foxe's Book of Martyrs (a MUST READ!), so I was very blessed to find this quote from William Wilberforce, shared on this site.

"Christianity especially has always thrived under persecution. At such a season she has no lukewarm professors; no adherents concerning whom it is doubtful to what party they belong. The Christian is then reminded at every turn, that his Master’s kingdom is not of this world. When all on earth wears a black and threatening aspect, he looks up to heaven for consolation; he learns practically to consider himself as a pilgrim and stranger. He then cleaves to fundamentals, and examines well his foundation, as at the hour of death. When Religion is in a state of external quiet and prosperity, the contrary of all this naturally takes place. The soldiers of the church militant then forget that they are in a state of warfare. Their ardor slackens, their zeal languishes. Like a colony long settled in a strange country, they are gradually assimilated in features, and demeanor, and language, to the native inhabitants, till at length almost every vestige of peculiarity dies away."

And now for a photographic summary of what we've been up to this month:
I got up early one Sunday morning and made donuts.  Yum!
Homemade glazed donuts + an ice cold glass of milk + a glorious Sunday morning = bliss!
We have played Ultimate Frisbee the last two Sunday afternoons, and it has been a BLAST!  I hope to post pictures soon.
The day before July 4th, I had the bright idea (or not so bright?) :) to make homemade Oreos, having no idea what a huge project it would become.  I started them in the late afternoon and finished them up around 1:30 in the morning.  By that time, my combat soundtracks were about the only thing keeping me going.  :)  The Oreos were absolutely delicious, and worth every bit of work.  You can find the recipe I used here
By the way, if you have never listened to The Red Baron soundtrack, you must! :) "Welcome Back", Friend & Enemy" and "Airbattle 1" are my favorites.
The 4th of July was a very beautiful and blessed day.  We had gorgeous weather, great fellowship, amazing food, and some super fun games.  God is so good!  I am so grateful for the freedom that we have.  Praise Him for His abundant goodness to each one of us!

New family photo!  I love it!

I love spending time with my precious Great Grandma.  She loves to tell me stories from nearly 100 years ago.
The kids took a bike ride after lunch.
At Grandma's birthday party with all of the grandkids.
The guys picked a bunch of black raspberries and mulberries, so we made a pie and homemade vanilla ice cream (what's pie without ice cream!?!).  It is a new family favorite, and Papa told me that it was his favorite pie ever.  :)
Each Tuesday, the guys go to play father-son baseball.  It is so fun to watch them!
Little Tigger is such a cutie pie!
Jeremiah takes such great care of her!
A glorious sunset yesterday evening!

Some Random Beauty and Cuteness from the Past Week

What a blessed life I have.  I must be honest and confess that I do not always see my life as beautiful, but it is.  I have a gracious God who forgives me, a beautiful Saviour who died for me, and the Holy Spirit working in my life, conforming me more to the image of Christ.  That is the hard part, the sanctification.  But I am grateful for my life, even if it is not what I, in my finite foolishness, would have chosen. God, in His infinite wisdom, had my life planned before He created the world, and He has known me since forever. :)

I read Psalm 36 this morning.  Verse 5 "Your mercy, O Lord, is in the heavens, and Your faithfulness reaches to the clouds." struck me and reminded me of Isaiah 55:9 "For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways and My thoughts higher than your thoughts."  I may not understand His ways, because they are infinitely higher than mine, but His faithfulness and mercy reach just as high.  He loves me, He treasures me, and He forgives my weakensses.  What a GLORIOUS thing it is to be a child of the one true God!  This is why life is beautiful!  I am redeemed, and nothing can seperate me from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus (Romans 8:39).

I didn't mean to get into all of that, but it just kind of happened.  :)  I'm listening to some gorgeous classical music - Vivaldi's "Four Seasons".  There is something special about having some favorite music playing, windows open to the beautiful, fresh, delicious smelling Spring breeze, thinking grateful thoughts, and watching my little brothers riding their bikes up and down the driveway.   See, I told you my life was blessed!  :)  :)

I would like to share a few (a few to me is more than 3 when we are talking about pictures) :) random pictures from the past week.  I love glorious sunsets, my brothers, our dogs, our new pet cat, Archie (who is actually a girl - whoops!), my awesome Mama who did something for me that you will see near the end of this post, and my Papa who works so hard and encourages me especially on the hard days. I hope you enjoy looking at the pictures as much as I loved taking them.

I was practicing my puppy cry, and Teddy thought I was nuts! :)
This is "Archie", named after Sir Archie Forbes in G.A. Henty's wonderful book, In Freedom's Cause.  I named the cat, and the boys don't particularly like my choice.  Hmmm.
Jeremiah built a house for Archie and is planning to put metal siding and shingles on it. It has two levels, a bedroom, and a "front porch".  Spoiled cat!  :) Is that not the sweetest thing!?!
This is one of my favorite expressions!
Little Mr. Bright Eyes.
A sunset as viewed over our pond earlier this week.  I thought of a line in Matt Redman's 10,000 Reasons as I was photographing it:
"Whatever may pass and whatever lies before me, let me be singing when the evening comes!"
Cutie pie!
And here's what my awesome Mama did for me.  She's the best!
Love, love, love sitting on the edge of the dock and dangling my feet over the water below.
Have a blessed and beautiful week, y'all!  Find something to be super grateful for today, like...doing the dishes!  :)

Happy Birthday, Papa!!!!!
What a blessing it is to be your daughter and have the God-given gift of calling you "Papa". What you mean to me, how much I love you, and how grateful I am for you cannot be put into words. I can only say that you are AMAZING! God has given you so much grace in raising, training, and instructing me in the ways of the Lord. For that, I am grateful. Thank you for being so diligent in helping to choose godly friends for me and keeping my heart pure.
Whatever happens in this next year, I know that we will not walk alone. Our God has been, is, and always will be faithful to us. I love you and I pray that we may be granted many more blessed years with you.
To God be the Glory,
Much love,
Hannah

Mama's Wedding Dress

Mama and Papa were married 22 years ago, on May 13, 1989.  Tonight, I was blessed with the opportunity to actually try on Mama's wedding dress!  It was so neat to get to wear something that was and is still so special to her.  Though it did not fit perfectly, it was still a wonderful experience.

The boys are out of town and Elijah has my camera, but a friend let me borrow hers, so that I can read the manual and then teach her all about it - it is an SLR and quite complicated!   THANK YOU, Mama for taking all of the photos of me.  I love you so much and praise God for you each and every day.
Mama looks an awful lot prettier in the dress than I do!
